Overview
Job Summary / Nature of Work: The Technical Designer / Drafter – takes creative/conceptual design ideas from our wide range of clients and turns them into a buildable reality by, analyzing designs, determining required resources and project deadlines. Implementing design changes and creating drawing packets required for fabrication, production, and installation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with senior project managers to develop designs from concept through to shop drawings.
- Understand the technical design parameters provided by client for a job.
- Aesthetic requirements including Finishing and lighting.
- Locational requirements such as Interior versus Exterior.
- Use various techniques and software to create mock-ups and prototypes from client concepts.
- Communicate frequently with project managers and clients about changing parameters.
- Communicate material needs to project coordinators to ensure the build will occur without delay once drawings are published.
- 2D drafting and 3D modeling of various technical design projects.
- Ground plan drawings.
- Shop drawings, both Scenic & Structural.
- Installation drawings.
- Utilize the industry standard design software: Sketchup, AutoCAD, and other computer aided modeling software.
- Collaborate and support the carpentry and metal fabrication shops on projects as
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A minimum 4 years’ experience in a scenic shop as a designer/drafter.
- Understanding of design
- Familiarity with mechanics, set construction, basics in electricity, standard truss.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, or diagrams.
- Proficiency in the design software. (Sketchup, AutoCAD, Adobe, etc.)
- Experience with creating 2D CNC machining files.
- Time management and organizational
- Ability to calculate material for a design.

Salary: $55 – 80K
